Australian Speaking Tour 2025
“Hunger, Hope, and Humanity: Clinical Nutritionists on Parenting, Malnutrition, and Survival in Crisis”
An Australian Tour with Noor Hammad and Ahmad Elfaleet
This September through November, Noor Hammad and Ahmad Elfaleet - clinical nutritionists, healthcare workers, and parents - will tour Australia to share their lived experience of surviving and caring for others amid Gaza’s worsening humanitarian crisis.
Their message is urgent: starvation is not just a humanitarian issue - it’s a generational one.
From refugee camps to homes where food has become scarce or entirely inaccessible, Noor and Ahmed speak from the frontlines - not as outside observers, but as people living through it. Their story is also their daughter’s story: born in a refugee camp, her first months of life unfolded against the backdrop of medical shortages, nutritional collapse, and profound uncertainty.
In this rare speaking opportunity, Noor and Ahmad offer a first-hand account of how food insecurity reshapes the bodies, minds, and futures of women, children, and families. They share personal testimony alongside insights drawn from years of working with vulnerable populations in crisis.
Topics they will speak to include:
What it means to experience pregnancy and birth under conditions of extreme malnutrition
How hunger and prolonged stress affect child development, with personal reflections from their own journey as parents
The breakdown - and resilience - of family and caregiving structures under siege
How communities continue to care, adapt, and support each other through crisis
In addition to personal stories and insights, the tour will feature two distinct formats:
“In Conversation” Discussions: Informal, interactive sessions where Noor and Ahmad will engage with audiences to answer questions and discuss critical issues of food insecurity, healthcare, and resilience in crisis settings.
Formal Presentation: A detailed, evidence-based presentation titled “Frontline Clinical Perspectives on Starvation: Maternal, Child, and Family Nutrition in Gaza,” offering a deeper understanding of the impact of starvation on maternal and child health, as well as the broader effects on families and communities.
